A little birdie wants to tell you…
… all about the quilt I am making. It’s from the It’s A Garden Party row along. Oh, oh, he is hopping with excitement! Of course, the little birdie must not tell you too much just yet, but he can drop a few morsels of information. He can definitely show you what I’ve sewn from patterns already released in the It’s A Garden Party row along.
He can also tell you who is participating in the hop next. The hop hop of excitement has really only just got into full swing…. there are lots and lots of blocks still yet to come. Lots more blog hop hopping you can do to find patterns and prize draws. Lots and lots of garden secrets and secret gardens to discover. Plenty of fun remaining!
Nearly my turn in the row along!
Not to be outdone by a gossipy little birdie, the attention seeking Chameleon is going to give you a sneak peak today of his my our quilt block for the It’s a Garden Party hop… I’ve called it “Garden Bath Joy”. My free pattern is coming on Thursday, only a couple more days to wait! The Chameleon imagines you’re going mottled with anticipation!
While the Chameleon amuses himself and the rest of us wait patiently for Thursday, we can take the birdie’s tour of the It’s A Garden Party blocks I have sewn so far. And I’ve picked out some garden-themed beauties from the Chameleon’s last Colour & Inspiration Party to keep us on theme to the end. This week it’s all flower power and Spring fever at the Clever Chameleon!
The “It’s A Garden Party” Row Along continues
It’s already the third week of the It’s a Garden Party pattern hop organised by Marian of Seams to be Sew! I hope you’ve enjoyed the first two weeks (if you’ve somehow missed it, head here and here to catch up as much as possible). Here’s this week’s amazing line-up for your hopping pleasure:
Tuesday, September 22, 2020
Heleen Pinkster Quilt Design | Patti’s Patchwork
Quilt Schmilt | Scrapdash | Your Sewing Friend
Thursday, September 24, 2020
Charisma’s Corner | Clever Chameleon (that’s me!)
Dragonfly’s Quilting Design Studio | Kathy’s Kwilts and More
Mountain Meadow Designs
Don’t forget to check us all out soon! Some designers will leave their patterns up for free for a long period or even indefinitely, but some are only available for a week. Don’t be a sad Chameleon by leaving it too late. I’ve got immediate plans for at least four of this week’s patterns, and I’ll save the rest for a rainy day.
I’ve got my Garden Party on already!
Are you sewing any of the new blocks from this hop? This is the third time I have participated in Marian’s annual row along, but the first time I have been able to sew some of the other designer’s blocks in real time as the hop progresses. Normally by this time of year I am far too over-committed. This year I am only a little bit too over-committed, so I have squeezed in some blocks 😀
Last Tuesday I had appliqués cut out from Brenda’s pattern at Songbird Designs. So this past weekend I sewed up a brick wall background to put them on. I made the wall using the instructions in Nancy’s block at Patchwork Breeze. I will finalise all my appliqués when I have all my pieced blocks sewn. For now I am just admiring how they look.
Actually, as I was admiring it, I thought to myself…. “There is something missing”…..
And my fur baby said “Too right!”. Photobomb time!
I was thinking more along the lines of: “The blue appliqué butterfly that has fallen off during transit, Mr Mew”…. but hey, everyone’s entitled to an opinion!
Over the weekend I also cribbed some sewing time to finish off the flowers I started last week from Cindy’s pattern at Stitchin at Home. The original pattern has space between the flowers, but this makes the block too big to fit into my quilt design. So I simply stitched the flowers directly to each other side-by-side instead. These flowers remind me of marigolds, the first flowers I ever grew in my own little garden as a child.
Making good progress on other blocks too
When you and I parted ways last week, I was threatening to make three half-size snails designed by Mary of Made by Marney. Well, taa daaa! Snails!
Since then I also decided to add some coneflowers to my quilt, courtesy of Beatrice of Pumpkin Patch Patterns. They are cut out and assembled now too, awaiting final placement decisions.
And I’ve made two birds from Cheryl’s pattern at Quilter Chic. I may add more yet, but so far it’s just these two happy chappies.
These birds aren’t going to be a block per se. Rather, they will be added-in colour and character on top of other blocks. They will hopefully help the quilt develop some cohesiveness through their separateness.
One of these birds is probably going onto the marigold block. Check out the slider below…. I’ve been wanting an excuse to try a slider block ever since my website upgraded to include them! Easily amused. Actually, my website’s been upgrading itself a lot lately, and everytime it does, something seems to break. New fun features are at least some compensation.
And last but not least I’ve made two flowers from the Pinwheel Posey Parade pattern from Ms. P. Designs.
Sneak Peek Ahead
I know by now you must be desperately wondering exactly what I have designed to go with all these terrific blocks that I’ve collected and sewn!
Well, you probably weren’t really desperately wondering – but you are now, right?! Right! So…. in the centre of my quilt will be a paper-pieced pigeon having the time of his life! He has the best bathroom you could imagine….. the pigeon equivalent of a penthouse spa.
Although admittedly, perhaps not quite so private.
If we get any closer, you’ll need a towel!
Oh, your appetite is whet already? Sorry about that! I can’t show you the rest of the block until Thursday. I promised Marian. Let’s go for an internet stroll instead.
Open Garden Season
It’s Spring in Australia, and having now put ourselves in a gardening mood, let’s see who else was blooming in their sewing room this week.
Gretchen at Gretchen’s Little Corner has finished a wonderful collection of garden-themed blue stars with a touch of yellow. She is making 12″ stars with fussy-cut centres for a quilt pattern called Stars Around the Garden. Sashing with yellow corner stones is where Gretchen is headed next. Visit her post to see all of Gretchen’s pretty garden-centred stars.
Sew Yummy is working through her floral fabrics left over from the 1990s. You know the ones – there are still a lot of them out there, haunting sewing room scrap bins all over the globe. Sew Yummy’s fabrics refused to stay buried, so they are now a plethora of interesting garlic knot blocks for two quilts. There are, we are told, still undead floral fabrics remaining. But I reckon vampires will give this sewing room a wide berth for now. That’s something at least!
And finally, it’s mid-month again. That means Turid at Den syende himmel has been making scrappy blocks. Turid’s scrap blocks always seem infused with sunshine. If you like scrap projects, Turid has a link in her post to a group who commit to Scrap Happy Day in the middle of each month. If you regularly make or enjoy scrappy projects you may wish to join them.

What a fun morning i have had! A hurricane(well now tropical storm ) is moving in, and we will probably lose our power here, but the sea is majestic in its advance and the rains have begun. The wind has such a different sound with this kind of storm.
However, I digress. Such an intriguing opening for your post Dione. I was immediately engaged. Definitely going to be fun seeing your finished snippets piece.(I don’t know how to identify it correctly). Gotta have some little beasties around the garden. Last night we had skunks, a small family out dining I guess. I’ll be back on Thursday. Have a great day
Can’t wait to see that block and your Garden Party quilt!!!
Love your flower garden!
It is nice to know how hard you are working at incorporating other blocks. I am on the fence about it, but a few have called my name! How much longer are you in the outback?
Hi,
Thanks for sharing all the links to the garden party. Sure are lots and lots of ideas to make a garden quilt..have a great day!
Wow you are making some absolutely stunning blocks Dione! That one blue background with the swirls–love! And I love that slider photo thingie, so cool how the bird appears. Cindy’s flower block is very cool. Sadly I’ve had my nose in my backpack for the past two weeks, so I haven’t been very active in visiting the sites. I will definitely be here on Thursday for your big reveal!
Love your versions of the other garden blocks! And can’t wait to see your pigeon!
