Bonus Post: What’s in the Box?

box from Island BAtik

Yesterday I let slip that my latest box of goodies has arrived from Island Batik, without showing you anything fun…..

I hope that wasn’t too unkind. At least you only had to wait a day to see inside. I had to wait nearly a week after I knew it had arrived! Oh, the excruciating anticipation of having a box languishing at the post office! A box of quilting supplies, no less. Full of surprises and free stuff! Worse than waiting for Christmas. But I’m feeling better now though, thank you for your concern.  🙂

Let’s have a look inside now shall we?

Oh, you mean unpack it? Ok, let’s do that too!

Mallee Ringneck Parrot: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Linky Party

Mallee Ringneck Parrot color scheme from Clever Chameleon

Hello!! We are back safely from the Outback.

Which means I have internet and phone coverage again. And that means that I will be slowly catching up on all your lovely comments and seeing what everyone else has been doing on their blogs recently. Being off grid is nice for a while, but quilting is really quite a socially centred pursuit, don’t you think?

The technical isolation of the Outback does have an upside…. for me, heading bush is a time of mental clearing, and of gathering fresh inspiration. Space and time to think and muse over possibilities. Usually quilted ones. 🙂 Arkaroola is especially good for this, being so ruggedly beautiful, and also a bit of a magnet for artistic and inventive people. You never know who you will meet there and what you might learn.

What is going on here?! Photo of herself with my boy supplied by Michele Lane.

Want to know who I met on this trip and what we did? Of course you do! 🙂

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas

three leaf clover quilt block

Yesterday morning it was -5°C outside at breakfast time (23F for you non-metric folks)! Last time I was somewhere that cold, it was Christmas…..

Just to prove how cold it was last night, here is a little tray of water my kids placed out on the verandah last night. Frozen!

With the cold weather, and with several Christmas in July blog hops happening around the internet at the moment and very soon, it is hard not to be thinking about Christmas. And more specifically, the Northern Hemisphere Christmas I had two years ago in Germany and Denmark. While a stinking hot Australian Christmas has plenty of unique and wonderful qualities, there are a lot of Christmas traditions that us silly Aussies cling to that make so much more sense in the cold.

So. I am in the mood to quilt something in cool colours to celebrate cold Christmases, in an early preparation for a hot Christmas…. but I can’t tell you exactly what I am making. Not just yet, because the big reveal is on July 24. That is my day on Carol’s Christmas in July hop at Just Let Me Quilt. I can show you some progress though. It might be a secret, but it’s not that big a secret. 🙂

Colours on Show: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Linky Party

Colours on Show color scheme at Clever Chameleon

I have been inspired to keep working on my designing and quilting this week by lots and lots and lots of local quilt talent!

There were so many great quilts and so many talented quilters at our state guild Festival of Quilts over the weekend  that I could almost feel myself getting more and more talented, just through osmosis. Luckily the show was only 3 days in length, or I’d probably have exploded with transferred brilliance. hahahahaha 😉 Silliness aside, there was a lot of wonderful inspiration at the show and I have a plethora of quilty thoughts to muse going forward.

Here are a just few more insights to some of the show goings on for your own weekly inspiration…..

A Good News Day is always a good time to say Thank You

Shadows of Auntie Green with blue ribbon

Shadows of Auntie Green has found her own little place in (South) Australian quilt history

Do you remember the story behind my April Island Batik Ambassador Quilt, Shadows of Auntie Green? It was inspired by a quilt from Australia’s early quilt history called Auntie Green’s Coverlet. And do you remember how I struggled with knowing quite how to finish this quilt off, and I got lots of lovely suggestions from readers that sparked just the right idea?

Well. that’s exactly what happened, and today I got a big but lovely shock in the form of a first ribbon at the South Australian Quilters’ Guild annual show, the Festival of Quilts. I pinned the ribbon on the quilt myself but I’m still not quite sure that I believe it. Somebody pinch me!!
