Sometimes you just have to get started. Then the ideas will finally come….

This week I have been working on my crazy diamond quilt idea from my previous post. I started this quilt with very little idea where I was headed…. A bit scary!……. But to put it off much longer would have been inviting worse disaster. Like, no quilt at all….

No captivating ideas had been forthcoming to me for the March Island Batik Ambassador challenge until now, and it certainly wasn’t for lack of pondering. All I had to show for about a month of ruminating was an urge to make improv diamond blocks from my Island Batik fabric scraps. Ever noticed that the calendar is relentless?!

Anyway, although I started this quilt with a sense of trepidation I have not felt in a while, my usual excitement is now building and I think I have a plan. I certainly have some blocks, and the void of ideas has made way for my more usual sea of squirrels. Come on in and see where I (think I) am headed. Colour & Inspiration Tuesday: Stops and Starts

Today’s Inspiration: Rare New Fabrics

In what was an unusual experience for me, I bought new fabric last week. For myself. With my own money. Yup.

Not needing to buy much fabric is both the upside and downside of being a fabric brand ambassador/inefficient sewer combo. Because it means I also don’t get to choose much fabric. So, I felt seriously out of practice walking into my local fabric warehouse with no idea what I really wanted and no third-party constraints on my decisions (except quantity, ha!). What is this odd feeling, called “too many choices”?

In the end I bought the fabrics you see in the Stops and Starts colour board above. I love these colours. Read on, and I’ll show you my new Love with a Twist background made up in these fabrics. I also have a small correction to give you for the Love with a Twist Throw construction instructions. And, of course, we have our weekly reader link up and fun featured projects.

What are you up to this week?

I have been doing mostly secret sewing….. lots of fun stuff for Island Batik and a little for a New Zealander designer too, but not much I can show right now.

Luckily there is one thing that is 100% mine to show though. I have been working on the first balloon animal appliqué for March. I will say, I have fallen in love with this next block of Love with a Twist…. a Kuddly Koala!

Of course we can take a peek at what others have been working on recently too. There were a lot of great link ups last week, come visit a few in depth with the Chameleon and me!

When Carol from Just Let Me Quilt announced there was a new blog hop coming up in February, I did my usual mental dance with myself. Mature Me said “Nope, you’ve got too many more urgent important things on your plate”. Optimist Me said “But I’ll just do something little…. I’ll squeeze it in”. Mature Me said “Pigs might fly!”. And Stick It to Mature Me Me said “Oooooh….. pigs might fly – that’d fit the theme! Hahahahaha”.

The thought of doing a Pigs Might Fly appliqué motif based on my balloon pig for the Love with a Twist quilt along was just too irresistible. Mature Me was seriously outvoted. So we joined the “Show Your Wings” blog hop, and here we are! There is a free pattern download for you too. Enjoy!

Introducing Ditty

Ditty is the name of one of Island Batik’s latest fabric releases. The colours are as cute as their name… Kind of a pastelly sunset. Actually, I don’t easily recognise them as pastels but I guess that is what they really are, since they are nowhere near colour-saturated. Is there such things as bright pastels? If there wasn’t, there is now.

I received 10″ precut squares of Ditty and two pieces of yardage from the collection in my Island Batik Ambassador allowance. I hope you have been following along and already know what I am making from some of it…. but let’s have a look in more detail. And I will show you what is in the parcel Accuquilt sent me too as part of the Island Batik Ambassador program. Of course it arrived the instant I stopped waiting for it…. that is the way it always works, right?! Right.
