Do you ever go back and revisit quilt ideas?

I often mean to, but it rarely happens. There is always a new quilty squirrel I can chase. But this month I am actually dusting off an old idea and the last of my Island Batik Victoria and Albert fabric scraps for the latest Ambassador challenge. I’ve had a plan for a while, it just needed its turn in the sun.

Island Batik October theme The Island Batik Ambassador theme for October is paper piecing…. foundation piecing, freezer paper piecing or English paper piecing….. our choice. Generally, I would say that I enjoy the former two much more than the latter. But…..

I have pre-cut scraps from the beautiful Island Batik Victoria and Albert fabrics that would lend themselves to English paper piecing and need using up.
I still want to explore the idea of organza wings for dragonfly appliqués that I mentioned some time back.
And I want to try out the aluminium (aluminum) foil method of turning fabric edges…. (with more of a view to appliqué in the future, but these things are interrelated). OK – so this is kind of “old project becomes new squirrel”, but whatever works……. 🙂

Thankful Wreath Quilt with Sweet Peas

Tuesday and a half ago, I said I was starting on a thanksgiving-themed wall quilt in Blossom Batiks – Splash fabrics. It’s getting there…..

When my samples of Blossom Batiks – Splash fabrics from RJR arrived in the post, the first thing they reminded me of was sweet pea flowers. Probably because my hubby’s Gran used to grow sweet peas every year, in colours not dissimilar to these. Blue-green leaves and two-tone purple flowers.

And as it turns out, this was a very helpful association to have. Because, as well as the October Beary Colourful bears, I had promised RJR a thankfulness-themed project featuring these fabrics. And……. when I did some research I found out that giving sweet pea flowers as a gift means “thank you”. “Thank you” in general, and more specifically “Thank you for a nice time”.

And from this connection, an idea was born!

Blossom Batiks Splash: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

Teal with red-violet and blue-violet. Now I’m inspired!

Have you seen these recent fabrics from RJR Fabrics? Today’s colour board is created from this really beautiful subset of the current RJR Blossom Batiks – Splash collection. Aren’t they glorious?

These colours are consuming a lot of my attention at the moment. Hopefully you’ve caught up with yesterday’s release of the tenth bear in the Beary Colourful BOM…. and saw the blue-violet RJR fabrics used there. Of course, September’s bear was red-violet. And November’s will be teal. But that’s not where my current obsession with these colours ends – not by a long shot. There is a small thanksgiving-themed project in progress in my sewing room featuring these fabrics as well. I intend to have it for download on the blog for you by the end of the month, all being well. Maybe even have some fabric leftovers to give away! 🙂

Wishing Star: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

How the blazes did it get to Tuesday again?

No matter. That just means it’s time to party again! Woo hoo, I love this time I set aside each week to really delve into what others have been up to.

On my side of the fence…… there has been much quilty activity in my sewing room. Sadly, most of it can’t be revealed to you just yet. But I did make a bookmark we can talk about. 🙂 It’s a nice little bookmark, made from scraps of my Aurora Star table runner. I’ve added a little wishing star at the top for luck. I thought it was a nice little nod to the parent project the scraps came from.

Actually, I want to give my little aurora wishing star bookmark away to someone who would like it …. So, let’s have a little game at the Chameleon’s party this week – with my new bookmark as the highly sought after and contested prize!. lol 🙂
