Just crazy enough….
Like a good friend with whom you can let your hair down anytime, my new little quilt is going to be just crazy enough to be great company. 🙂 I am beginning to really like having this scrap buster hanging around, brightening my day. Even though it is only half done. And running waaaay behind schedule.
I’m talking about my vintage reimagined, crazy-modern tribute quilt that has featured in my last few posts. I am struggling to find time to focus on it, with life throwing our family too many curve balls this last fortnight. But although the quilt’s not coming together as quickly as I would like, it is coming along a treat overall. I love the colour combination I’ve chosen (and that I’ve somehow miraculously managed to stick to). I also love my solution for highlighting the crazy seams without the complexity of masses of embroidery.
And I love how it looks with the flowers my hubby and daughter chose at the supermarket this week. Happy Tuesday!
A solution to last week’s quandary
Remember how last week I was not enthused at the thought of crazy embroidering the seams in this quilt? Well, I have decided to tread a different path…. embellishment! 🙂
I emptied my scrap ribbon buckets to see what I had collected from flower bouquets and clothing from over the years. You know those ribbons that hold new clothes on the hangers, that you remove after you buy them? Yes….. I totally keep them. Magpie me!
I also emptied the drawers of the sewing cabinet I inherited and found some short lace scraps that came with the cupboard. Apparently my magpie tendencies came from my mother’s side…. lol.
I distributed the ribbons and lace and a little string over my diamond crazy blocks.
I sewed the diamonds together and started adding the grey borders. And now my quilt top looks like this.
Adding the embellishments has been time consuming and I still have some fraction of them to sew down. But the project is finally taking shape now and I like it a lot. I am even a fan of the grey!
And as an extra bonus, the quilt top looks great with my latest bunch of flowers from my nearest and dearests. Howzat?!
I should have this quilt top done soon – then another tricky decision…… How to quilt it?
Feel free to muse it over for me and comment after you’ve had a look at….
Our latest party highlights
The Chameleon celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in style at Quilt Fabrication with Susan’s latest table runner.
He then took a trip down memory lane with more Vintage Reimagined projects – including this one at Pretty Piney. It’s another tribute quilt, like mine but with a LOT more known about the original maker…. A few minutes to read Becca’s post about Clarence will be your time enjoyably spent, I promise.
And we were super pleased to see that Rebecca Grace at Clever Cognoscenti has finally got the borders on her amazing pineapple quilt. Head on over to see her ingenious hack for getting her borders pinned on with minimum fuss and maximum perfection.
I hope you enjoy all these quality projects as much as I did. 🙂 Have a browse, then tell me….

I keep ribbons from clothes hangers too! Also from chocolate boxes, gifts and anywhere else! I spent ages trying to think of a crafty use for them before it occurred to me I could use some to tie back my hair.
I am loving it and that gray, magnifique.
You’re quilt is coming along nicely – the fabrics in your scrap blocks play very well together. And thanks for celebrating St Patrick’s Day with me!
Oh I like it Dione! And I, too usually save those ribbons 😉 As for quilting, I think it would probably have to be fairly minimal, but SITD is traditional, but obviously some of that to stabilize and then maybe a modern motif or two on each block (I think Christina Cameli) and then some fun Angela Walters’ stuff in the borders. Her wavy wavy motif she did last week would be cool in one of them.
Hi Dione! All those fractured pieces look fabulous with the gray, I think. It makes me think that you had a some broken glass and thought about capturing them underneath a glass in a frame. I guess I’d have to say twice – but it looks so COOL. Love it. And that coral – oooh-la-la. How to quilt something is never anything you would ask me. I would stress over just the thought of being asked! However, I see lot of lineal lines when I look at it – so either capitalize on those or minimize them. That’s all I’ve got. Happy Tuesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne
I LOVE your ribbon-embellished crazy quilt seams! Perfect way to update a crazy quilt and keep it fresh! Thanks for the shoutout, too, by the way. It’s so anticlimactic to finish a quilt that’s been so long in the making. It felt like coming home from a war, and why are there no parades?! 🙂
