How Fairy Exciting. Forest Fairy Crafts ahoy!

Fairy made of felt and thread

Let’s do something a little bit different today, just for fun!

This week I took a break from quilting to do some other crafting. Although it’s not unheard of to find random craft projects on Clever Chameleon, I admit I haven’t done any non-quilty crafting for the blog for ages. It felt good to detour for a day or two!

A while back, I was invited by C&T Publishing to join Lenka Vodicka-Paredes and Asia Currie on a blog hop for their book “Magical Forest Fairy Crafts Through the Seasons”. Well, I couldn’t resist. The book is really cute, the instructions are easy to follow and are genuinely aimed at helping you craft with children. And the icing on the fairy cakes? The projects are designed to use really. sensible. items! In fact, I did not need to buy a thing before my daughter and I could give this book a really good workout – and my non-quilting stash is not very extensive.

Today I’d like to introduce you to Lenka and Asia, and their sweet book. And I’ll point you in the direction of their blog tour so you can have a go at winning an e-copy of the book for yourself. Yay for new friends, fun ideas and a bit of childhood magic!

When I was a kid…..

…. I liked to make gumnut people in my school lunch breaks. After collecting gumnuts and flowers, twigs, and the caps that come off gum flower buds, I would stick the bits together with gluey acacia sap to make gumnut families – gumnut people of all different shapes and sizes. I don’t think I ever really played with any of my gumnut people, I just liked making and having them. Lenka and Asia’s book transported me back to those days: where life was simple, time moved slowly, and creativity was unhindered by over-analysis.

I also still have a favourite book from my childhood. It was a gift from my Grandma and I particularly loved it because it is a pop-up book. It is called “The Pop-Up Book of Gnomes”. She also gave me copies of “SnugglePot and CuddlePie”, and then “The Water Babies” as I grew older. As you can see, I have been thoroughly primed to accept unseen realms of little folk, and I was a sitting duck for Lenka and Asia’s book.

The Pop Up Book of Gnomes

If you are a lifelong crafter like me, and/or a bit of an imaginative dreamer, then I bet this book will trigger some happy memories for you too. It will definitely give you a kick start to make some new ones. 😀

Forest Fairy Crafts through the Seasons

“Forest Fairy Crafts Through the Seasons” is Lenka and Asia’s second book. It is brim full of cute fairies, small critters, toys and even some ideas for your Christmas tree. Here’s a taste of the contents…..

….. make sure you also have a squizzy at their short video.

You’ll have a number of opportunities to win an e-copy of this sweet book in the next couple of weeks. The Forest Fairy Crafts Blog Tour launches today at Forest Fairy Crafts, followed by the schedule below:

June 9 Welcome to Forest Fairy Crafts

As you can see, you will have a chance to win a copy from the Clever Chameleon right here on the 14th June. And I will also show you more of what my daughter and I made from the inspiration in this book.

In the meantime….

…. make like a Forest Fairy, hop onto your unicorn and slipper off to the first tour stop.

Fairy riding a unicorn
cat and mouse

Lol, sorry. 😀 I found my newly-minted fairy riding this slipper on the dining room table the other morning…. The unicorn had recently arrived at the St. Mummy’s Hospital for Loved Ones due to his ears having been mysteriously and callously amputated… (yes, we are looking at you, Mew). And while the unicorn slipper was waiting in the queue, apparently a magical friendship was forged. It seemed only right to me that they should remain together, but unfortunately the repaired unicorn has been forcibly returned to service, so the fairy is currently facing the bored cat on his own.

Wish him luck! Don’t forget Colour & Inspiration on Tuesday, and then try your own luck for the e-book back here on Friday. See you again soon!

The Chameleon turns rainbow with pleasure when he hears from you. I am more reserved, so I will respond in gratitude by email instead. Now that it’s your turn…. Scroll right to the end, leave me a comment and tell me, what do you think? Thanks for connecting!

  1. I love the fairies! Is this a hint to a possible new block of the month? Love the post and look forward to seeing each future one 😊

  2. I wish that building fairy houses was something I was familiar with as a child. I think I wold have loved it. I remember some magical moments with maple seeds/helicopters that we turned into people. This book looks like tons of fun!

  3. That really looks like a fun book Madelyn and I could play with together! You are so creative – even as a child!! Your foray into childhood did remind me of a few great memories as well!
