Gonna Finish This Sucker! One Monthly Goal with Elm Street Quilts
This month I am very excited to be participating for the first time in OMG at Elm Street Quilts. I work so much better with deadlines to keep me focussed. Otherwise I have too many fun ideas…..
In July I started a tumbling blocks quilt in solids. This is a little unusual for me. I tend to work in batiks, but I was unsure whether I would take to sewing Y-seams or not. And I had a particular plan to recreate a quilt idea that had occurred to me during a Colour Inspiration Tuesday. So I stocked up on some relatively cheap solid fabrics and cut a stack of diamonds with my AccuQuilt GO! cutter.
I got it mostly sewn, and two tutorials on the process written (about Y-seams and about tumbling blocks quilt construction) before life interfered and things stalled on this project. Now it’s time to get it done.
My goal broken down:
- I have all the tumbling block quilt units I need, I just have to finish sewing them together.
- Then I need to buy fabric for the borders and the backing, and get the quilt top finished.
- Finally, I will layer up and pin the quilt sandwich and stabilise it with stitch in the ditch quilting.
That is where my goal ends. However, I reserve the right to completely finish the quilting on this one, but it is not part of my official goal this month! We have to be realistic! 🙂
Do you have a quilt goal for September? If you do, share it with us here in the comments below. And consider joining us at Elm Street Quilts for some accountability (and be in the running for a prize as well!).
I hope you will share what you would like your September 2017 chapter of your Quilt Story to be!
P.S. Also linking up with Main Crush Monday at Cooking up Quilts and Free-motion by the River. Come on over and find out what other people are working on this week.
What a fun quilt! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
Thanks! Looking forward to linking up again at the end of the month with success! Have a great month.
Hi Dione,
Your September goal looks totally doable to me. You are so close to being done – the hard part is done. I look forward to seeing a post in three weeks saying the completed flimsy with us, and maybe even the quilted product. I wonder how you are going to quilt this?! ~smile~ Roseanne
I wonder how I am going to quilt it too! I think that’s partly why it stalled, and why I am making myself accountable to get it done. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Anyone out there want to share how they quilted a tumbling blocks quilt? Thanks!
Very cool quilt. Y-seams aren’t so bad. Like everything else, they get easier the more you sew them, so you’ll be a Y-seam rock star by the time this is ready for quilting!
My September goal is to quilt two UFO/WIP projects on my new longarm machine. This is probably overambitious, but if you shoot for the moon, even if you miss you land among the stars. 🙂
I actually like Y-seams now. I’m even thinking to do a hexagon quilt in the future. 🙂 I do like your attitude about ambitious goals. I have something else special I am working on this month…. part of a blog hop early October, which I am very excited about. So getting this done as well is my “moon”. I hope you reach your goal. Having a new longarm is very exciting! Good luck!
This is going to be stunning when you finish it!
Thanks 🙂 My daughter is already super excited.
Oh yes, love OMG. I’m starting a new baby size quilt. Hope to get fabric all picked, cut and sewn to top stage…. time will tell!
Sounds great. Got a special recipient in mind?
This is a lovely quilt and it sounds like you are on track to achieve your goal. Looking forward to seeing it finished!
Thanks Rhonda, you’re very kind.
