November is nearly upon us, which means several things…..
- You need to finish up your Blue-Violet creations before the end of Wednesday and get them linked up to Patterns by Jen for your chance to win a $25 voucher for Cherrywood Fabrics.
- There are only two sleeps until the 11th Beary Colorful Bear arrives and sneak peeks are in full swing on Facebook.
- We get to start thinking about my favourite part of the colour wheel… Blue-Green for November.
- And my boy is nearly 8. Turns out, he is suddenly developing quite the sense of humour….
Even though I haven’t posted in a week I don’t have a lot I can show you quite yet….
I have been very busy though, I assure you!
I have made two blue-green bears for Thursday, plus I’ve drawn up the pattern. But I’m not showing you that yet – there is an established trend of me not giving you significant sneak peaks on the blog – I’m not likely to buck-it now…… hahahahaha…… you’ll have to head over to facebook if you want an early bear fix.
And I have been working hard on another project that I hope to be showing you next week….. I am very excited…. after 18 months of exploring this space, I am finally putting out my first commercially available quilt pattern!
And….. I have done a little more on my Sweet Peas gratitude wreath that I wanted to finish this month. But extended-family issues have taken their toll this last fortnight and gratitude quilt is not finished yet. But all the flowers are appliquéd down and it is looking good so far…..
Blue-Green, my favourite!
In lieu of anything else quilty to share, I thought I would dig out a few of my favourite blue-green themed photos from Unsplash.com. I keep folders of photos on this platform that I think would make great starting points for quilt ideas…….
Nature is a fabulous place to start looking for quilt inspiration.
And so is architecture. I’d like to know…… where do you look for creative ideas, and how do you keep track of them?
Speaking of creative ideas……
A little random anecdote from my evening tonight
Me to my nearly 8 year-old son….. “Bedtime, mate”.
Response: “But I want to show you this. My friends and I made a company”.
“OK…….?”
“I’m making flip cards and we’re going to sell them… 50 c each.” – Master Gardner-Stephen then proceeds to show me a handful of little flip cards he’s made (with my paper I might add). They are mostly Halloween and Minecraft themed….. typical boy stuff.
But there was one that intrigued me…….
“What’s this one?”
Totally straight-faced, Mr Nearly-8 says “It’s an open-minded person”. Of course, I had to flip it open…….
Oh, my pelvic floor! hahahahaha!
I usually politely decline to put money into Mr C’s never ending plotting and scheming…. but that is truly the best 50 c I spent all day! My new open-minded friend will keep me company in the sewing room tomorrow while my budding entrepreneur is at school.
What else tickled the Chameleon’s fancy this week?
At last week’s linky party we had another Blue-Violet Bear join the clan…. that’s always cause for celebration. This one’s by Lynn.
There was this gem of a mini quilt linked up by Andrée of Quilting and Learning – What a Combo!
But the main feature goes to Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting, with four fabulous client quilts this week. The Blue-Violet and Blue-Green quilt is the perfect colours for seeing out October and welcoming in November here on Clever Chameleon! But of the four, I must admit I really admire the Ninja Turtles. Apparently each of the Ninja Turtle faces has over ninety pieces. That is some serious paper piecing!
Aren’t all four quilts lovely in their own right?
My sincerest thanks to everyone who linked up last week. If you were featured you can find a badge of honour here.
Link up to the Chameleon’s Linky Party this week and show us your projects
What are you working on, or have recently finished in your sewing room? Link up a blog post, a Flicker pic, an IG post or simply a photo from your computer. See if you can get the Chameleon to turn quilted with happiness. We’d love to see your quilting colours.

Clever flip card – haha! Those jade colors are lovely! Nothing to link so far; I’m working behind the scenes though! Can’t wait to see your project reveal!
Well, that’s an original thought by your son! And if they are all jokes – it could be something. I, too, am at a blogging lull, using a block that I can’t show, forgetting thread in one location or another, but I’ll get back in the saddle soon! Good luck with your pattern! It takes so much work.
Love your son´s sense of humor!
I have noticed lately that I get inspired by doors and floors!
Ever the entrepreneur in your family, he has a great sense of humour too. Next, it will be his own blog . Love the colours for November.
Haha oh I love the flip card!! It sounds like congratulations are due to you on your upcoming pattern release 🙂 Lovely eye-candy. Hopefully I’ll be back later linking up..!
I love looking at ancient mosaics. The Sistine Chapel is the greatest for inspiration. Thank you for the linky party.
Hi Dione! Aww yes, the creativity of an almost-8-year-old-boy is almost endless. How very clever and I just adore the open-minded drawing!! I still feel badly about not being a pattern tester, but perhaps the new year will allow me such freedom. And that succulent blue-green photo is just FABULOUS, and is that one architecture on the bottom, second from the left. You had to go look, now didn’t you?!! I l.o.v.e. that one a LOT. ~smile~ Roseanne
Love the flip card!
Hi Dione, you budding entrepreneur is pretty clever – I love it! Thanks so much for featuring my diamond mini 🙂
Your son’s flip card made me laugh! Love the aqua. Or is it turquoise?! Or teal?! Thanks for the feature!!! I love that gem, too.
I think, if we didn’t live on opposite sides of the world, that our boys would be great friends. I can’t wait to show him your son’s flip cards. My D loves word play, too, and although his first love is space, he also loves Minecraft and coming up with schemes. His current one is Comix Inc., where he sells little (space-themed) comics he writes.
Love that flip card your son created!! He rocks! The teal colors are great too! Thanks for sharing!
