Modern Elementz – Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

I am in the planning and design phase of my next quilt project for Island Batik and I’m looking for the sweet spot where the available fabric, the design brief and my personal preferences intersect. The Island Batik theme for June is “Modern Batik” and the fabrics I have chosen are some of the fat eighths sent me from the Island Batik Elementz range. These fabrics were given to me for use in my role as an Island Batik Ambassador.

For my colour palette, I have pulled the pinks, oranges, chartreuse greens (lime greens) and blue-greens from this collection. And a red. Namely. the colours in today’s Modern Elementz colour board at the top of this post. In all, I have cherry-picked 16 of the 28 fabrics in the collection and I have a good start on a design…. and it’s only the 5th of June! Ha!

June is Purple – Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

June is Purple! Yes folks, May is nearly done and it’s time to start thinking about next month’s Color Challenge feature colour! Purple.

“they mixed red and blue together — and what did that make? It didn’t make green. It made a deep dark purple. Purple as violets, Purple as prunes. Purple as shadows on late afternoons.”

Do you recognise the quote above? It is from the Golden Book Classic “The Color Kittens” by Margaret Wise Brown. Oh, how I was obsessed with that book as a small child. I had the audio version, on mini vinyl with the read-along booklet. I can still hear it in my head, nearly 40 years on….. perhaps it is no small wonder I have ended up here with a blog like this! Anyways…..

Let’s have a look at the complexities of purple and some of the meanings it can convey as a lead up to the next Monthly Color Challenge. And do I need mention …… the release of the Purple Beary Colourful Bear pattern is nearly here? – Friday! Yay! 🙂

Do you remember these tulips I showed you last week?

Mother's Day tulips

I received these on Mother’s Day. So they are now over a week old and they look like this:

Spectacular and artistic, just as I promised. And very hard to photograph as a group, I might add. Too many divas and not enough limelight.

Anyway, each tulip has opened up to reveal a striking and beautiful 6-pointed star in the centre. What can I say? Mother Nature still has my vote as the greatest designer of all time!

The Chameleon has turned One, and he’s having a party. A Colour Party! And YOU are invited!

The Chameleon had a birthday on the 26th April and wanted a party. But just like my kids, he has had to wait until a more opportune moment for his celebrations….. And just like my kids, the waiting has just made him all the more excited! 🙂

Beary Colourful BOM: Always Learning Green Bear

It’s been a bit of an education for me, designing and releasing the Beary Colourful Bear patterns. I’ve certainly made my share of errors. But I am proud to be always learning!

The fifth bear in the Beary Colourful Quilt BOM series is a little more serious than some of the most recent bears, but not in a bad way. Always Learning Bear has a thirst for knowledge, understanding and wisdom. And he’d love to be stitched on a quilt to encourage someone to develop the same passions!
