Sew Early 4 Christmas – Snow Globe Coaster Tutorial and Give-Away

Snow Globe Coaster (Mug Rug) Tutorial from Clever Chameleon

Welcome to the last stop on the 2018 Sew Early 4 Christmas blog hop

It’s finally my turn to host the Sew Early 4 Christmas tutorial series organised by the lovely Joy at Days Filled with Joy. Over the last three Mondays we have been gifting you quick sewing project tutorials that you can sew now and put away for December. So that you can have the last laugh when Christmas tries to  sneak up on you yet again…… I’m assuming it is not just me who sometimes gets surprised by that stealthy ninja of a date!

Sew Early 4 Christmas

So far in our series, we have had a really cute Christmas wreath pillow from Susan at Super Mom No Cape, a handy drawstring bag from Pam at Threading My Way, and customisable Christmas crackers from Joy at Days Filled with Joy. And today we complete the set with snow globe coasters (mug rugs) from me.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial – feel free to pin or save it for later. And make sure you scroll to the bottom of this post, because I have decided to give away my coasters to 4 lucky readers, and also a coaster-making kit to a fifth. It is Christmas in July, after all, so we definitely need gifts!! Instructions to enter for the give-away are at the end, along with the details of the earlier tutorials in the series for your browsing pleasure. Merry Christmas!

White Christmas in July meets Colour Inspiration Tuesday

White Christmas quilt color scheme by Clever Chameleon

Welcome to my stop on the Christmas in July blog hop. And, since it’s Tuesday, its also our weekly Colour Inspiration Tuesday link up party. Merry Christmas-in-July!

Island Batik challenge July Today I can show you my new Christmas quilt in full! This quilt is also my Island Batik Ambassador project for July. I do hope you’ll like it, it is going to be a very welcome addition to our family’s Christmas decor this year. I’ll finish telling you its story today as well , after having to leave you hanging a bit yesterday.

And I know all this Christmas excitement is a bit distracting, but don’t forget, you can show me what you are working on (or have just finished) by linking up to the Chameleon’s Colour Party at the end of this post. Everyone is welcome at the Chameleon’s quilt and sewing party every Tuesday…. if you don’t blog or use social media you can still join in with just a photo. I’d love to see what you’re making!

But first, come on in and see my new quilt “White Christmas”.

Mallee Ringneck Parrot: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Linky Party

Mallee Ringneck Parrot color scheme from Clever Chameleon

Hello!! We are back safely from the Outback.

Which means I have internet and phone coverage again. And that means that I will be slowly catching up on all your lovely comments and seeing what everyone else has been doing on their blogs recently. Being off grid is nice for a while, but quilting is really quite a socially centred pursuit, don’t you think?

The technical isolation of the Outback does have an upside…. for me, heading bush is a time of mental clearing, and of gathering fresh inspiration. Space and time to think and muse over possibilities. Usually quilted ones. 🙂 Arkaroola is especially good for this, being so ruggedly beautiful, and also a bit of a magnet for artistic and inventive people. You never know who you will meet there and what you might learn.

Want to know who I met on this trip and what we did? Of course you do! 🙂

Craft Room Destash Challenge – Scrappy Shadow Appliqué Pillow Cover

Another project for the fabric scrap lovers…..

Are you a hardcore fabric scrap hoarder? I mean, do you keep all your scraps, even All the Little Bits? I’ll admit, I am and I do. I have them in large tubs, sorted roughly into colour groups. But, in my defence, I also know a technique that makes good use of those small fabric scraps. So that’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it. 🙂 And what’s more, I’m always happy to share my quilty-stuff hoarding excuses with you…..

Join me this destash challenge for a scrappy shadow appliqué tutorial.  And some pointers for turning your appliqué panel into a pillow (cushion) cover. I made my shadow appliqué pillow almost entirely from stash. I wonder if you can too……..

Craft Room Destash Challenge – Project 70273

Project 70273 middling quilt

From the Sewing Room – Project 70273 and a Destash Challenge

Second month into 2108, and I’m still committed to destashing some of my fabrics. 🙂 It definitely helps to have a little motivation from Megan at C’mon Get Crafty and her Monthly Destash Challenge.  In fact, my destashing has become even more important, now that I have had a significant influx of fabrics from Island Batik. If you missed the opening of my first Ambassador box yesterday, you might want to take a squiz. I am over the moon with the collection of quilting supplies they sent me to play with!

Anyway, back to the destashing….. For last month’s challenge I used up most of my red fabric scraps making appliqué hearts. I also made a quilt top for these hearts to go onto, all out of stash. So I have actually used a measurable amount of stash so far. Great!

The hearts quilt project is on the backburner for now, but I must admit, I am very pleased with it. I expect I will progress it along again soon. However, for this month’s destash I am showing you something different. A much smaller project that is also part of a much bigger project – one that you might like to think about getting involved with too.
