Cheerful Orange: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Linky Party

Cheerful Orange color scheme by Clever Chameleon

Welcome to the little Tuesday wedged in between my Sew Early 4 Christmas tutorial yesterday and our next Beary Colourful Bear pattern tomorrow!

Poor Tuesday! He had his big turn last week, with the Christmas in July blog hop…… but just because he is not the star of the Clever Chameleon blog this week doesn’t mean he can’t be inspiring.

He most certainly can!

Today’s blindingly bright colours are inspired by a little charity quilt that has just passed through my sewing room, cheering the place up as it went. I don’t know if I’d make myself a quilt in these colours, but it was nice to borrow them for a while. We all need a little cheering up occasionally. Let me brighten your day with this little orange quilt, another nice orange story from my week and a little look at the start I’ve made on my August Island Batik quilt.

Secondary Pattern Quilt Challenge – Progress Report

appliquéd snowflake

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!! I’m soooooo excited!!

It really feels like Christmas in my sewing room today! I think I just gave myself the best present ever. …..

Did you ever have that feeling of intensely looking forward to Christmas because you knew you were getting that present that you’ve always wanted? But then there was also a little bit of trepidation that that “ultimate” present wouldn’t live up to your expectations? And then Christmas finally arrives and the present is even better than you’d hoped for, and the elation is enormous? You can tell I’m excited, because I’m babbling…..

Anyway, I’ve just had one of those rare experiences.  I bought myself something, I’ve mustered the courage to try it out, and opening the box wasn’t actually the pinnacle of the experience. Yes!!!!! High fives all round!

Let me tell you what I’ve been up to……

Craft Room Destash Challenge – Scrappy Shadow Appliqué Pillow Cover

Another project for the fabric scrap lovers…..

Are you a hardcore fabric scrap hoarder? I mean, do you keep all your scraps, even All the Little Bits? I’ll admit, I am and I do. I have them in large tubs, sorted roughly into colour groups. But, in my defence, I also know a technique that makes good use of those small fabric scraps. So that’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it. 🙂 And what’s more, I’m always happy to share my quilty-stuff hoarding excuses with you…..

Join me this destash challenge for a scrappy shadow appliqué tutorial.  And some pointers for turning your appliqué panel into a pillow (cushion) cover. I made my shadow appliqué pillow almost entirely from stash. I wonder if you can too……..

Year of the Dog Mini Quilt – An Island Batik Challenge

Year of the dog mini quilt

It’s the Year of the Dog. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year? Yes, Happy Chinese New Year! And Happy Island Batik Ambassador New Year as well!

chinatown entrance

Chinese New Year fell on the 16th February this year, so we have now entered the Year of the Dog. Celebrations commenced on Chinese New Year’s Eve and will traditionally continue for two weeks past New Year’s Day. This period is also officially known as both the Chinese Spring Festival and the Batik Jamboree. There are many amazing and colourful celebrations happening in our local Chinatown. So I thought we should celebrate the Year of the Dog too, with a new mini quilt!

Wait! Really? You haven’t heard of the Batik Jamboree? The Batik Jamboree of the Fabric Zodiac? The beginning of the Island Batik Fabric Lunar Calendar? No? Oh! I shall have to fill you in…… Continue reading “Year of the Dog Mini Quilt – An Island Batik Challenge”

Beary Colourful BOM: Blue Bear of High Hopes

Blue Bear quilt block from Beary Colourful BOM

February! Time to meet the Blue Bear of High Hopes!

Beary Colourful BOM at Clever ChameleonI know some of you have been waiting (patiently?!) since quite early January for the next bear in the Beary Colourful BOM. I must say, I was mightily impressed at how quickly red bears started appearing after the first pattern was released, and I want to thank everyone who shared a red bear with me last month. I think we will need to have a teddy bear’s picnic at some point!

So, without further ado, here is our Blue Bear of High Hopes. I have done him twice in two slightly different sets of fabric, because I like to double-check the pattern for you. At the end of the year I will have enough blocks for two bear quilts. I’m not seeing a downside to this, are you?!  🙂
