Fabric colours for 2019 at Clever Chameleon Quilting blog

Happy Chinese New Year 2019

Today, Tuesday February 5th, is Chinese New Year and also my 1st Island Batik Ambassiverary. 2019 is Year of the Pig and in the next few weeks we will have several cute piggy appliqués on the blog to celebrate. But first, we get to herald in the New Lunar Year with Colour & Inspiration Tuesday. The Chameleon thinks this is a very good sign for 2019!

And today is not just any Colour & Inspiration Tuesday either. It is none other than the first opportunity in my blogging calendar for me to share with you about the 2019 Island Batik Ambassador year. If you read on, you will see that we going to have a lot of batik fun here this year! And there is also one major change in the program from last year, that I hope you will like.

As on previous occasions, there is also one set of pre-release fabrics in my new samples from Island Batik that is concealed for now. But I promise you, you are going to love my surprise fabrics come August. And I can let slip a little something about them today……. Shhhhh, don’t tell though, it’s our secret.

Getaway Blog Hop with Island Batik

Cat on a Wall quilt by Dione Gardner-Stephen of Clever Chameleon

Paisley Park meets Cat on a Wall

Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik Getaway Blog Hop. This is my last project as a 2018 Island Batik Ambassador, and accordingly, a biggie.

Back in July I received a “Surprise” package. Inside were glorious Paisley Park fabrics that had to be kept secret for the longest time! But today I can show and tell all. My instructions were to use as many of the different fabrics as I could to create a quilt of at least lap size. And if I wished, to incorporate themes of travel and destinations.

So much beautiful fabric, so many quilt options. But I’d had an idea that had been waiting it’s turn for a very long time, and around September it finally it dawned on me that the colour and contrast spectrums of the Paisley Park fabrics would be perfect for it. My Cat on a Wall design from eons ago.

Of course, surreptitiously getting you hooked on these new fabrics in the process. 🙂 And then I’ll tell you how you could win a 5″ strip pack of 20 of the fabrics used in my quilt. I’d love you to be able to have a play with these fabrics, they are even better in real life.

Paisley Park – Colour and Inspiration Tuesday

Paisley Park color scheme by Clever Chameleon

Are you ready for a trip to Paisley Park?

“Got your hat? Where’s your water bottle? Have you put sunscreen on?”…. Those are the questions of the day here….. 41C (105.8F) and UV index 13! Or perhaps where you are, a trip to the park requires a different sort of hat…. and a coat and scarf and boots….

If Paisley Park was a place, I reckon it would look like this…..

Depending on your perspective, Paisley Park may be either a cool relief from the summer heat or a bright spot in a cold day. Thankfully a trip to Paisley Park in Fabric Land is not weather dependent and the only thing you need to put on is your thinking hat!

What would you make from these pretty blue-greens and purples? That just might be the question you are asking yourself if you win some of this fabric from the Clever Chameleon. More about that in a moment!

Pick a Pumpkin: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

Pumpkin colour scheme by Clever Chameleon

The Pick A Pumpkin blog hop is here!

Carla from Creatin’ in the Sticks has organised you yet another fantastic blog hop. This time around the theme is pumpkins…. big pumpkins, small pumpkins, friendly pumpkins, mean ones….. Ok, so she didn’t really give explicit permission to quilt nasty pumpkins, but she did say any quilt, any size – so long as it has a pumpkin on it somewhere.

I really like pumpkins for decorative purposes – so many colours, shapes and textures! Like many Northern Hemisphere seasonal traditions, this is not really a thing we do well in Australia. But I  did develop a greater appreciation of the scope of pumpkins available when we lived in Europe a few autumns past. How to bring some of that art home without breaking any quarantine laws? Quilts, of course!

Thankful Wreath Quilt with Sweet Peas

Give Thanks Always wreath quilt concept by Clever Chameleon

Tuesday and a half ago, I said I was starting on a thanksgiving-themed wall quilt in Blossom Batiks – Splash fabrics. It’s getting there…..

Blossoms Batik Splash fabrics by RJR at Clever ChameleonWhen my samples of Blossom Batiks – Splash fabrics from RJR arrived in the post, the first thing they reminded me of was sweet pea flowers. Probably because my hubby’s Gran used to grow sweet peas every year, in colours not dissimilar to these. Blue-green leaves and two-tone purple flowers.

And as it turns out, this was a very helpful association to have. Because, as well as the October Beary Colourful bears, I had promised RJR a thankfulness-themed project featuring these fabrics. And……. when I did some research I found out that giving sweet pea flowers as a gift means “thank you”. “Thank you” in general, and more specifically “Thank you for a nice time”.

And from this connection, an idea was born!

To follow the development of my thankfulness wreath quilt so far and also collect a 20% discount code for Electric Quilt products valid until 23rd October 2018. read on.
