Lunarcy Quilt: Year of the Rabbit Block Release Day

The Chameleon is a Rabbit. He argued his case last week to be a Dragon, but the prosecution asserts that he first popped into existence in 2011. That is, during the most recent Year of the Rabbit. And a birthday is a birthday – so a Rabbit he is, and a Rabbit he must stay.

Actually, the Chameleon seems to be taking the rebuttal quite well now, really. He says he likes being a Rabbit after all. Rabbits are dangerous and scary. Super scary. Take the specimen on our latest colour scheme for instance. Definitely a killer bunny.

A killer bunny, you say?! I don’t think so.

The Chameleon knows you don’t *want* it to be a killer bunny, but he says he has an eye for such things. So, he wants you to have a careful think: Are you are sure it’s not a killer bunny?!

Really sure?!

You have to admit, the Chameleon has considerable experience in the arts of disguise and camouflage….. I wouldn’t blink if I were you.

You are here for the Lunarcy, right? Expecting sanity around here would be lunacy at the best of times, and the moon is nearly full again. It is, apparently, going to be a Wolf Moon….. the Rabbit on the Moon shall have big teeth and Lunarcy abounds! bahahaha! 😀

OK…….. enough silliness. Time to download the Year of the Rabbit Lunarcy quilt pattern before all this comes back to bite me.

Ladybirds for Luck: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Ladybirds for Luck

So…… This week, things are going pretty well here…… Covid restrictions easing. My latest assignment written (and submitted!) on time. Three more blocks on the Lunarcy finished….. which gives me some breathing space to do some of the pattern writing for a change. And a four day weekend due to a public holiday yesterday combined with a student-free day today…. Puts me in the mood for a lighthearted look at Lady Luck, since that’s where the themes in my sewing room, the great outdoors and my linky inbox seem to intersect this week.

Why luck? The Chameleon doesn’t strike you as being overly superstitious, (unless it suits him), you say? Ladybugs, that’s why. They are the latest nice thing to arrive in my desert backyard in numbers large enough for me to notice. The ladybugs here in Arkaroola are smaller than at home in Adelaide, and are quite a fabulous orange, with large “three-lobed” markings. They are the Transverse Ladybird, or Coccinella transversalis, whereas the ones further south are the Large Spotted Ladybird, and are, well, larger and more spotted.

Lucky Charms

Ladybirds are lucky in many cultures, and widely popular as a good luck charm. Good for the garden, and cheery to look at. When I am finished the Lunarcy project, I am tempted to work some ladybird luck into my sewing room next. I am still thinking to design some extra blocks to accompany a paper-pieced garden block I have just developed for Seams to be Sew’s row-along in September. Ladybugs are right at the top of my ideas list. It seems to me that a Ladybug quilt is a must have in one’s gifting repertoire….. Going on a new adventure? – Cool, here’s a ladybug quilt for prosperity in your new place. Getting engaged or married?…. Everyone needs a bit of luck to kickstart the journey. A quilt for comfort in health challenges? Ladybugs are never in bad taste.

Actually, the Chameleon says ladybugs have a very bad taste indeed. Lucky for them, I reckon.

Do you know what else is supposed to be lucky? A rabbit’s foot.

Personally, I think I know something luckier than a rabbit’s foot… the rabbit that got to keep it.

Yup, you guessed it. I’m up to the Year of the Rabbit block on the Lunarcy quilt.

Once Upon A Story: Puss in Boots

Puss in Boots applique block by Dione Gardner-Stephen at Clever Chameleon Quilting

It’s Story Time Again!! Once Upon A Story…..

Once Upon a Story blog hop button

…. there were two hardworking and dedicated quilt bloggers, one at Seams to be Sew and the other at Clever Chameleon. Their names were Marian and Dione.

One day, Marian decided to go into the internet forest in search of quilt designers to help create a huge blog hop. A blog hop where there would be a free quilt block pattern at every stop, and lots of prizes too. The theme was to be Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes: Once Upon A Story.

Dione, who spends a great deal of time tending to posts in the internet forest, thought she’d like to be part of this gig. Like all good forests though, this one was full of big bad wolves who tried to deceive and eat her: distraction, too many choices, changes of mind, poor organisation…. But also like all good fairy tales, the heroes won in the end. After much deliberation, Puss in Boots was the pick from her list of favourite fairy tales and nursery rhymes. The block was made, the pattern written and the post is up. The Chameleon slayed all the big bad wolves and Dione lived happily ever after…..

Welcome to my stop on the Once Upon a Story Row Along!

Pulling my Hares Out: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Hares and Castle colour board at Clever Chameleon

Still Working on Things

Once Upon a Story row-along at Seams to be Sew

Another sneak peek today for the Once Upon a Story blog hop. Today I’m pulling my Hares out. Don’t worry, just my applique ones. And I am not reverse-stitching, just unveiling. 🙂

Remember last week, how we met the Ogre from Puss in Boots? And how he turned out not to be such a bad guy after all, even filling in briefly for the AWOL Chameleon? Well, today we add the Ogre’s castle and more of his possessions to the Ogre and partridges panel. Did you know that the group noun for hares is a drove?

Anyway, we now have on my Once Upon a Story block: a covey of partridges; an ugly of ogre; a drove of hares; and a castle…..

All we need now for this quilt block is……. an attitude of cat…..

Cat on quilt

Yeah, not that one….. the other one. Puss in Boots.

Rabbit Season: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday

Wabbit Season colour board at Clever Chameleon.

It’s Still Rabbit Season

Hi! It’s Tuesday, and I’ve got nothing new (that I can show you). Busy as a beaver behind the scenes – but nothing ready to go public. So, today we are simply going to bask in the warm fuzzy glow of the two rabbit patterns I released in the past week (make sure you have them downloaded) and admire some new inspiration kindly left for us last week by our Clever Chameleon community.

I also tried out one of our previous inspiration features for myself this week. That, I can give you a glimpse of, so read on to see. Then enjoy some of the latest linkups, and share what you’ve been up to. Happy quilting!
