This Kwiltin’ Koala had a big week and an even bigger weekend!
I know just how she feels! Last week I had the excitement and privilege of submitting my first finished magazine quilt pattern. I can’t wait til it gets to press and I can tell you more. Woo hoo! And then I had a weekend of two Scouting activities with the kids and my brother’s 40th birthday party! So this fuzzy cutey is not the only Australian on the hunt for a comfy place to nap today.
Having said that….. I still managed to finish my log cabin-inspired Tired Teddy Labyrinth quilt top for my Island Batik November Ambassador challenge today. Everytime I spread it out, this flimsy makes me smile. It has been so much fun to put together so far!
Tired Teddy Labyrinth Quilt Progress
Last week I was able to show you the start that I had made on my November challenge quilt. And pics of my furry helper, very persistently “helping”. Now that the quilt layout is decided and all the blocks are together, the cat has decided his help is not required anymore. Apparently I can be trusted to finish it from here.
Accordingly, all the appliqués are now done. Once I have prepared a backing, trimmed all the loose threads, layered and basted the quilt I can get on with quilting it! If you say if fast like that, it seems like no work at all, doesn’t it?! 🙂
Anyway, here’s some shots of the appliqués that I have added to those blank spaces in the maze…..
Tired Teddy is too cute. 🙂
But I have wondered since whether he should have been a koala….. Did you know that koalas sleep 18 to 22 hours per day?! And are moderately insect repellant due to all the eucalyptus they eat! No bed bugs for a sleepy koala! Anyway, a little tweaking and Tired Teddy may get a Koala friend. We will have to see how the wind blows when I get to writing up this pattern. 🙂
BTW, the adorable koala photo used today was provided by David Clode on Unsplash.
Apply to join in at Island Batik in 2019
Completely changing the topic, here’s something you may wish to consider asap. Island Batik have opened their application process for 2019 Ambassadors. I have had a blast his year and am very grateful for all the opportunities that being an Island Batik Ambassador has afforded me so far. If you are interested in applying for the 2019 team, you can find the application form here. Applications close 7 December 2018.
Our feature from last week’s link party
Anne of Laughing Gas Quilts caught the Chameleon’s eye with this superbly done project from the Squared Away BOM. Loved the colours, the scrappiness, the little accident with the blocks, the stained glass-style shot, the discussion of process and a comment on the overall effect! Lots in this post, and loved it all. The link to Anne’s post in last week’s party got corrupted, so if you didn’t manage to visit this post already, today is your lucky day because I’m recommending it now!
And because I love all things whimsical…. I’ve also featured this paper-pieced turkey from the ever-clever Marney of Made by Marney. Possibly the best defence against getting eaten if you don’t have teeth is being cute. Or smelling of eucalyptus……
My sincerest thanks to everyone who linked up last week. If you were featured you can find a badge of honour here.

Such a great post and I absolutely love the bears. Thank you for the linky party Dione.
Awww, sweet, tired Ted! I think he would appreciate a sleepy koala friend! That is just the most adorable picture! Thanks for sharing!
I love the colours of your logcabin maze!
Can’t wait to see the full quilt.
Congratulations! Love the tired teddy quilt.
Absolutely love the Tired Teddy!!! Will you be making that pattern available? Everything you touch is magic!!
Hi Dione! Happy Happy belated Birthday to you!!! Yes, keep saying it fast like that and in just a of your fingers your IB labyrinth quilt will be all finished. I really, REALLY love this quilt. Oooh, so much quilty goodness in it – I would really like to make this just exactly like yours. And those appliquéd pieces are so cute – love Tired Teddy. How cool is it that you pattern is tested and now behind you – and you’ll soon be able to share all the dets with us?!! {{Hugs}} I can’t think of anyone I’d be happier for. I think being an IBA is cool but sounds like too much stress for me. I don’t know how you keep all those balls in the air as it is!! One last comment making this turn into a novelette of sorts – I’m going to offer a sew along in January, and want to link people to your dragonfly technique. Brother hasn’t gotten back to me. Geez. Happy Tuesday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne
Those tired teddies are adorable, and are going to be perfect on that quilt. Koalas would definitely work too, although they’ll sleep without a quilt. Congratulations on your first pattern publication. Can’t wait for the reveal.
I can’t believe I didn’t comment on this post. I was rereading it tonight, and when I reached the comments section realized that I must have zoned out for some silly reason before making my thoughts known.
Tired Teddy is a sweet little guy and he would be an encouragement for little ones to get their nighttime routine established. I love the happy colours in the maze. An enterprising quilter could change on of the appliques to include books on the bed for bedtime stories. Thanks for the inspiration Dione.
