The Lunarcy Quilt continues today
Wasn’t the “It’s A Garden Party” row along this past month fun? I hope you were left with lots of resources and ideas. Now that that intermission is over though, we should return to our regular programming to see what the Chameleon’s been working on.
The big event in the main ring at Clever Chameleon’s circus at the moment is the Lunarcy Quilt, and it’s definitely time to get on with it! So, Part Two of the Lunarcy Quilt pattern is available for you to download today. This new pdf supplies you with all the appliqué templates you’ll need to create the branches and blossoms for the Lunarcy Quilt blocks, ready to add the animals and lanterns.
And the latest news at Arkaroola? Well, it has finally rained!
At Arkaroola lately
As I was madly finishing up my Spring Garden Party quilt and posts, I didn’t have time to tell you, but it rained. Not just the few showers and sprinkles that we’ve been having occasionally, but a measurable amount of proper Spring rain. In fact, the second best rain they’ve had here all year, and the best by a mile while we’ve been here. It wasn’t exactly “all the rivers run”, but we did get some running water in the smaller creeks and a morning of muddy fun. This is what our part of the Outback looks like when it rains.
Incredibly, the water stopped flowing within a couple of hours. It was really quite astounding how quickly it just disappeared. Most of water in the creeks didn’t reach the main river bed in any significant way and the little that did, spread out or filled shallow waterholes. So the main river barely trickled at all. But the culvert under our driveway was convincingly wet and audible, so I feel like I can say I’ve experienced running water in the Outback now. 😀
The water that soaked in is already having a profound effect on the local flora. Hopefully next week I’ll be able to show you some of how the surrounds have greened up. And the tame Sturt Desert Pea wildflowers in our yard are sending up flower buds too. Stay tuned.
The next Lunarcy Quilt installment
The Lunarcy Quilt was supposed to be a BOM, but thanks to the twists and turns that have been 2020, it is now a BOWIFLI (block of when I feel like it – thanks Kathleen for the new acronym!). My proposed end date is still February 2021.
This quilt pattern is very kindly supported by Island Batik, who supplied all the fabrics to me for the sample. The fabrics I used are detailed in the pattern, and are all from their Foundations Basics and Blenders collections. This means that if you wish to use any or all of the same, they are still available through your favourite Island Batik stockist.
blossoms and branches download
Today’s pattern installment is called Branches & Blossoms, because that’s exactly what you will find inside. All the templates for the appliquéd branches used on the entire quilt, and the three appliqué flowers sizes too. Next week we will have the first animal appliqué pattern – the animal symbol for this year – the Rat. A most appropriate mascot for this year, methinks. But for now branches and blossoms.
**** It is really important that you print this pdf at 100%, otherwise your pattern pieces will be the wrong size for the quilt blocks. Turn off any “fit to page” options in your printer dialog and ensure that the printout size is set to 100%. There are check boxes supplied in the document. If your printout is successful, these will measure 1″ square. The document is designed to fit on US Letter and A4 paper. ****
The Lunarcy Quilt measures 75.5″ x 94″ and is designed for a single/twin bed. Part 1 of the pattern lists the fabric requirements and details how to put the quilt top together. It is your choice whether you prefer to do this before or after the appliqués. You can download Lunarcy Quilt Part 1 here. There will also be 13 appliqué files, of which today’s is the first. The remaining twelve will cover the animals of the zodiac.
I hope you will enjoy making something from this pattern and I’d love to see what you’ve made if you do. If there are any problems with the file, please let me know.
And, your weekly dose of Linky Inspiration….
It was a big week in quilt blogland this week. It seems there is quite some sewing ramping up as the weather in the Northern Hemisphere cools down. Here’s a small taste of posts you might enjoy.
DONNALEEQ has a pretty finish. This is her Clow Wind Blows wall hanging, perfect for Fall. She has quilted it really effectively with serpentine stitch, head over to her post for the details and a look at the project she has started next.
Turid continues to impress with her tiny piecing skills and beautiful photos. Another two tiny blocks for the Sewcialites QAL. Head over to Den syende himmel for a look at both Turid’s versions of block 3 and a glimpse of Norwegian autumn.
Joy at Days Filled With Joy is continuing with her Bee Happy sew along. It’s not too late to join in this easy, scrap-friendly and feel good project. Tell Joy I sent you! 😀
Did you check out all the blogs in the Show and Tell day of the “It’s A Garden Party” row along? Kathleen linked up her cute finished project from Kathleen McMusing. This is your chance to head to her post and also check out all the entire list of projects displayed on that day.
And one last linky- Vasudha of Storied Quilts has her first pattern release. Join with me in congratulating Vasudha and wishing her all the best in this new venture. If you are looking for a modern, stunning non-gendered quilt design, this is a great place to start. Check the post to see how different this quilt looks on other colour choices.

Thanks heaps Dionne, so looking forward to more lunacy this year.
Do you have any idea how much pleasure you bring with all your photos as my husband and I will never get over there. Such a treat. Thank you so much.
The rain must have been welcome, and the change in vegetation from it always a surprise. Thanks for the feature! Its always a pleasure to play with the chameleon.
Hi,
You want rain and we get too much, if only we could send rain where it’s needed. It always amazes me when after a rain that everything seems to perk up. Have a great day!
Glad you got some rain! Looking forward to your pics of the flora soon!
Hi Dione! It looks like Spring is starting to sprung there. HAHA! That is a terrible sounding sentence. It’s nice to read an update from you – I missed the last few posts for some reason. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
Thanks for the pattern Dione! I figure, if I start cutting out my 600 flowers, I might be done in 2035. But seriously, I think all those little flowers are lovely!! And apologies, I too have missed a lot of the recent posts – I did read them, but commented just feel by the way. I always enjoy the blog, and seeing what you have discovered in the outback. Take good care!
Haha, I love “block of when I feel like it”!!!! Very fun!
