As luck would have it…..
As I was trying to work out where I should draw colour inspiration for today’s post from, nature volunteered. This was tonight’s sunset, as seen from our back patio. The colours were brief, but some of the very best we’ve had since we moved here.
Good timing, Mother Nature. Just glorious, thank you!
Pinks, yellows and oranges and last minutes on the Lunarcy too
Progress continues on the Lunarcy quilt this week. I now have a Pig block to go with the Rat block from last week. I only finished the pig appliqué this afternoon, getting photos just before the sunlight disappeared in that blaze of glory.
Disclaimer: Island Batik supplied these fabrics to me free of charge to create the prototype Lunarcy BOM available here soon at Clever Chameleon for the remainder of 2020.
In the name of progress, I have decided to put aside the question of flower centres for the time being. Fine line between expediency and procrastination, right?! Anyway, I can sew down what I’ve got now and add the flower centres later.
I have been wondering about using a variety of flower centre styles for a while now, rather than the original plan of all filled circles. At least two commenters also suggested this idea independently last week, so I am going to muse in that direction for a while longer. That idea might just have legs. Maybe I could even cut out some red circles and scatter them around to see what it looks like with only some of the flower centres filled in. Meanwhile, I still have 10 zodiac animals to stitch down, so there’ll be no lame Chameleon excuses for putting this aside just yet.
What else did I do this week?
Speaking of legs and lame Chameleons….. on Sunday we climbed this “hill”. It’s full name is Griselda Hill, but I can assure you, it is just being modest.
Here is the view back down to Arkaroola Village from part way up.
The way up is steep. The way down is somehow steeper!
To be honest, I think we took a wrong turn at one point on the way up, and followed a washout that looked very much like the path. This meant that when we got near the top we couldn’t get over the rocky outcrop that runs along the ridge. No matter – when our legs have recovered we can have another go at finding the official route. The view from where we got to was still amazing. We could see the Arkaroola feature known as the Armchair (mid horizon below).
And a bit of water left in the Arkaroola Dam since February’s rain.
That’s the first time that I’ve seen either feature from this angle. Now that the day temperatures are more sensible, I hope we will do a bit more of this walking-exploring and gaining new perspectives.
Walk-Explore the Internet with the Chameleon
You are invited to come on a more leisurely stroll with the Chameleon, through some recent high points of the quilty internet….. You might even get a new perspective for a project of your own.
Melva at Melva Loves Scraps stole the Chameleon’s heart this week with a post and a mini quilt celebrating laughter. That big kind of laughter that heals the mind, body and soul. Melva has drawn her inspiration from the visual representation of the sound wave of a laugh – you should definitely pop over and have a look for yourself.
Or if it’s something to make you actually laugh, then here is a random recommendation for you. Not quilting or party related at all, just something I found in the news today…… Brits poking good fun at our gorgeous Little Penguins on Phillip Island. I have been there and seen this short-legged spectacle for myself a few years back, and so enjoyed this silly voice over immensely.
Time to focus, Chameleon….
Vashudha of Storied Quilts shared her latest Island Batik project, a table runner that depicts one period of a Sine wave in glowing Sundance fabrics. Sine waves, sound waves – it would seem waves are all the rage this week!
Susan of Quilt Fabrication shared two finishes from the Stay at Home Round Robin hosted by Quilting Gail. Susan’s cheerful Fiesta Garden wall hanging features a pond in the centre, complete with ripples… dainty little water waves.
And Nancy of Grace and Peace Quilting has completed her quilt, Plaidish (pattern by Erica of Kitchen Table Quilting). Guess what the quilting program that Nancy used on her quilt is called?
I promise I’m not pulling your leg…. it is “Heatwave”. You’ve got the link, you can check!
Lovely aren’t they – both the quilt and the awesome photo location?
Thanks to everyone for their swell link-ups. 😀

What a gorgeous sunset. I just love the colors.
Your quilt is coming along. I am loving all those flowers.
Cant wait to see what you do with the flower middles.
I would leave some of them with nothing inside. Just me !!
Have a wonderful week.
What BEAUTIFUL sky!!!! It is absolutely stunning!
Beautiful sunset, Dione!! I love seeing those! Thanks for sharing your inspiration today.
Beautiful sunset and views from your photos today. Thank you for sharing them as I am really enjoying viewing your world through the camera . Thank you for the linky party.
I loved the video and those colors from the sunset… WOW! Gorgeous! Thanks for the shout out. Blessings, M
Hi Dione, what a wonderful blog you send out. I do so enjoy all of it especially the beautiful pictures of your home environment.
Also the video of Phillip Island had a wonderful laugh.
Thank you for all the things you put in your blog, they are inspiring.
Happy days to you and your family in such a wonderful place. Give Chameleon a pat he is pretty special.
Hi Dione! Wowee. Mother Nature really put on a fabulous show for you. The views from that “hill” are pretty spiffy and worth another on-path chance. I think you can absolutely worry about the centres of the flowers another day, Scarlett (O’Hara from Gone With the Wind). {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
So many great things in this blog. I love that you are just working along and will figure out the centers as you go. The penguins are quite entertaining. I wonder if this is the Brit who has narrated his dogs eating/zooming – a sportscaster. I love what you find on the hikes too. Our environment does not change much day to day, but spring is definitely blooming as my sneezing increases daily!
Interesting views from your hike! Those penguins gave us a good laugh! Thank you for featuring my Plaidish quilt–it’s always fun to see the chameleon dress in one’s quilt!
Hi Dione, I just watched the video and that made me laugh! Your pictures of the sunset are amazing. You’re doing good progress on your Lunarcy quilt – good luck!
