Are you ready for a trip to Paisley Park?
“Got your hat? Where’s your water bottle? Have you put sunscreen on?”…. Those are the questions of the day here….. 41C (105.8F) and UV index 13! Or perhaps where you are, a trip to the park requires a different sort of hat…. and a coat and scarf and boots….
Depending on your perspective, Paisley Park may be either a cool relief from the summer heat or a bright spot in a cold day. Thankfully a trip to Paisley Park in Fabric Land is not weather dependent and the only thing you need to put on is your thinking hat!
What would you make from these pretty blue-greens and purples? That just might be the question you are asking yourself if you win some of this fabric from the Clever Chameleon. More about that in a moment!
Today’s colour inspiration board comes straight from the Paisley Park fabric collection from Island Batik that I am to feature right here tomorrow. If you somehow missed it, the Island Batik Ambassadors are currently on an extensive 4 week blog hop to showcase all the newest Island Batik fabrics. You can find last week’s links here.

Have you been following my Paisley Park journey?
I am so happy to have had a chance to play with the beautiful Paisley Park fabrics. They are some of my favourite colours. But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing…..
Sadly that tear is not the only challenge I’ve had in making this quilt. Even though it should. have. been. quite. simple. Thankfully, all’s well that ends well…… you will see tomorrow.
But it does give a mildly false impression that the Chameleon is always on top of things. I can assure you, he is not always. The Chameleon and I are going to make an effort to show our quilty progress, or lack thereof, closer to real time on Instagram (@CleverChameleon) this year. We’ll see how that goes, and we’d love you to join us if you are on IG.
One of the advantages of getting staying more connected with the Clever Chameleon is entering our occasional giveaways. And on that note……
Congratulations to Brenda
On the 11th of January I proudly announced the publication of my first magazine quilt pattern, Triangle Friends, in Make Modern. And with that, I was pleased to offer a gift copy of my magazine and a commemorative mini quilt to the person who could name the animals on my quilt to my daughter’s satisfaction.
The winner of that competition is…. Brenda. Apparently the clincher was naming the fish “Fillet”.
All the entries were very clever, and I’d like to make special mention of Terri’s entry. Terri named all the animals after types of triangles, and her entry was my own personal favourite. The judge’s decision is final, but I really appreciated your cleverness Terri – thank you for making me grin. 🙂
If you didn’t win, not all is lost….. tomorrow you can try your luck again and enter to win some of my Paisley Park fabrics. And if you would still like a copy of Triangle Friends, you can get Make Modern Issue 26 here for AU$8.
Please note: this article contains affiliate links to Make Modern. Buying a Make Modern product through these links will not cost you any extra, but I will receive a small commission in return for the referral. This in turn helps cover the costs of keeping the Clever Chameleon on the internet, thank you.
So, about winning that Paisley Park fabric…..
What I have set aside is 20x WOF 5″ strips. These are strips cut by my hand from my Paisley Park leftovers and two coordinating Island Batik basics. This is a beautiful prize…. it is the same amount of fabric as a jellyroll of 2 1/2 strips, except more versatile. Here it is.
Come back tomorrow for your chance(s) to play to win it. To win you will have to answer this question…. If the Clever Chameleon was a fairy godmother (fairy god-lizard?) what are three wishes he would bestow on a newborn and their future?
Would he wish them personal characteristics, such as courage or kindness? Perhaps physical characteristics such as strength or beauty? Or more abstract benefits such as prosperity or freedom? Hmmmm…. if you have been following the Chameleon for a while, hopefully you might have some feel for how he operates and be able to have a good guess.
On tomorrow’s quilt we have three wishes, all linked to the blog hop’s theme of “Getaway”. Wonder, freedom and …. Well, you’ll have to come back to find out the third …… In the meantime get thinking about your own “magic three” god-lizard gifts. You will be able to have multiple goes at the answer, depending on the ways that you follow the Clever Chameleon. More details tomorrow!
Our features from last week
This week the Chameleon was very taken with Maggie’s coral, black and white crazy quilt. He like the idea of being the Coral Crazy Chameleon for a day. Terrific colours, and while the construction took Maggie on a bit of a journey, the end result is lovely. Maggie blogs at Making a Lather, where you can find her post about the ups and downs of putting together this little quilt top.
There are also a lot of quilty journeys being planned this time of year…. UFOs to be finished and quilt alongs to be joined. And personal projects to keep track of too. Here’s a couple you might like to keep an eye on:
Jen of de Jong Dream House is making a temperature quilt for 2019, but with a difference. Not only will it track the daily temperature, but also how she is fairing each day with her brain injury.
Janice of Color, Creating and Quilting is starting Sarah Fielke’s 2019 BOM and promises to keep us abreast occasionally of her own progress.
And of course, there is the free BOM, Love with a Twist, here at Clever Chameleon for 2019, which you are welcome to join anytime. It’s a no-pressure kids’ quilt with lots of scope for making the version that suits you best. The first block is coming out asap after my Paisley Park post tomorrow.
Finally, one last quick shout out to Cherie of Cherie’s Quilting Journey. Cherie has tested and brought to our attention her new favourite method of table basting her quilts. I think I need to try this one too. Thanks Cherie!

Paisleys are beautiful, and the name winner, “Fillet” no wonder that was #1. I am waiting to see what your batiks are made into??
Really looking forward to seeing your quilt, and hearing the story behind that fabric repair!
Your stories are always great and Fillet is a perfect name for the fish, although a little twisted…. Now, I will go back and check on those triangular names – sounds intriguing. Looking forward to tomorrow’s reveal!
Looking forward to your reveal. The Paisley Park fabric is gorgeous for sure. Thank you for the linky party.
Filet!! Fabulous name. I love the idea of triangle names, too. But the judges’ decision is final. ~smile~ Roseanne
Those prints are quite lovely, and I am anxious to see your quilt. Sorry about the mishap. I don’t think I have instagram so couldn’t go there. We were at -20 yesterday morning, while I understand you may have been sweltering. What contrast.
Thanks so very much, Dione and daughter!! I’m glad you liked my names for the animals!! Now to check out your reveal!!
I’m glad I put a smile on your face. It was a fun game. I’m happy to have found your blog. Your talent is amazing.
Fillet is a great fish name! Congratulations to Brenda!
