Today I finished my Island Batik Ambassador project for June 🙂
In the works here for a while now, has been a new book bag for my daughter to take to music lessons. And today it’s done. It features a paper-piecing technique that is new-to-me, Island Batik fabrics, HOBBS Thermore batting and six music motif block patterns by Juliet of Tartankiwi.
Read on to see my new, and very simple, drawstring bag. And to see how the Chameleon got himself into a little strife after our latest Colour & Inspiration party. Happy Tuesday!
Last post, Denise commented that my balloon duck appliqué has attitude. 😀 As unintentional as that actually was, I agree. And in light of that comment, my duck appliqué suddenly reminded me some of the duck from The Duck Song by Bryant Oden.
….. and he said to the man running the stand, “Hey! bup bup bup…..”
“Got any Grapes?! “
Bahahahaha. That legendary song has helped my family through countless moments/hours of boredom over the years. Driving a long way? No worries, play The Duck Song. Waiting at the doctors? No worries, play The Duck Song. My kids have even added extra verses of their own on occasion. If you thought the Rubber Duckie earworm from Tuesday was cruel, get a load of The Duck Song stuck between your ears! What is it about ducks that causes them to be the subject of annoying songs anyway?
Your reward for smiling and nodding while I go on about duck songs is the next free pattern from the Love with a Twist series. Also in this post, a couple of housekeeping items…. we announce the winner of the Forest Fairy Crafts ebook and also remind you about a correction to the Fabulous Fish block pattern from May.
I changed my mind (shock). Several times. (More shock….. you are shocked…… right?!). When I got out of bed on Sunday I was all set to use my sewing time to make a modern quilt for Island Batik and HOBBS. I was going to make a large colourful graphic improv block…. maybe a wonky log cabin or a star. And float it in a big black background.
It was going to be Modern As. After all, this month’s Island Batik Ambassador challenge is “Make it Modern with HOBBS”.
Instead this happened…..
“Hop to be square”. Modern, yes. Improv, no. Bright and colourful, no. Floating block, still no. Not my fault though. I am just the medium the quilts use to get here….. 😀
It’s May, and that means it’s Rabbit Season at Clever Chameleon! Today we have the Love with a Twist junior bunny, Rascally Rabbit. Sweet as they come, and just a little bit cheeky. And totally in love with his Mum.
In a few days time, we will also have a bonus rabbit appliqué… Rascally Rabbit’s Responsible Rabbit mummy. Awwwww, they’re such a sweet pair. It’ll be my Mother’s’ Day gift to you. Keep reading now to collect your first rabbit balloon pdf pattern today, see a preview of Mama rabbit, and find out all the details for making the most of the next block of the Love with a Twist quilt along.
This month’s second Love with a Twist block is one of my personal favourites. Toddling Turtle. He’s cute, he’s friendly and he doesn’t take long to put together.
And he’s wearing full body-armour, which I think is what I need to install on my 8 year old! This is what happens when you let dads play with their sons unsupervised folks…. a buckle fracture caused by too much fun on the trampoline, followed by an evening in the paediatric emergency dept. Life…. it’s what happens to you while you are trying to quilt!
Toddling Turtle is our second option for Love with a Twist Block 8, and our alternative for Bonny Butterfly, who we saw a few weeks ago. Keep reading to collect your turtle balloon pdf pattern and find out all the details for making the most of the next block of the Love with a Twist quilt along.
