Vibrant Violet: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

Vibrant Violet colour scheme by Clever Chameleon

September and October are going to be Very Violet for the 2018 Monthly Colour Challenge

During September we will celebrate all things pinkish-purple – partying on the red side of violet. And then in October we will even things up with the bluer side of the colour family. All very pretty, to be sure.

Purples are high on my list of colours to feature on a quilt. No difficulties there. But I am a little worried about one thing. I suspect what two months of thinking about soft purples really means is…….  I am going to spend 9 weeks thinking all too often about berry-flavoured frozen treats…. mmmmm….

So, to make sure I am not alone in this torturous state, there is one Berry Colourful Bear appliqué coming right up!

There is also lots of new blog hop action for September, a Pattern Tester call and last week’s quilter link up features all packed into this post. Welcome back to Colour Inspiration Tuesday at Clever Chameleon!

Fabulous Freebies – Quilt Binding Resources and a Free Appliqué Pattern

Have a Really Great Fall appliqué pattern at Clever Chameleon

Today is the fourth day of the Fabulous Freebies blog hop. Isn’t that Great!?!

This is the hop where we get to tell you about our favourite online quilting freebies….. resources we have found or written in the past and still love now. And there are plenty of new freebies going around too! This generous hop is hosted by the very interesting, funny and talented Joan of Moosestash Quilting. If you are not already a regular at Joan’s you are missing out, not just on fun quilting banter, but her unique garden and her adorable kittens too. Do head over there once you are finished here!

My contribution to the Fabulous Freebies hop today is a post rounding up my favourite binding tutorials. And I have a new free appliquéd wall hanging pattern for you as well – to try out your new favourite binding on. It’s big enough to have a good honest try at a binding technique, small enough to finish! Create it in readiness for Fall (of course if you are in the Southern Hemisphere you have a LOT of time to get this done before next Autumn). Regardless, it is a fun cheeky design and I hope it gives you a smile.

That’d be better than Great. It’d be……

A Two-Faced Pumpkin Quilt Facing Tutorial (and Modern Winding Ways finished)

Modern Winding Ways quilting detail

Island Batik ambassador button

Modern Winding Ways is finished.

Quilted, faced (invisibly bound) and hung. 🙂 And de-fluffed with several passes of a sticky clothes-lint roller. Crikey, does black fabric show batting lint or what!!?! So, that is it – my June Island Batik Ambassador challenge crossed off the list. Happy days.

If you’d like to follow the whole design and construction journey for Modern Winding Ways, you can find out more about the design stage here and the flimsy stage here. Today we are just going to have a little look at how I finished it. Including a quick tutorial on how to face a quilt, with a bonus little side project.

Two-faced Pumpkin quilt pad/table protector

Ummmmm….  I said “face a quilt”….. not “put a face on a quilt”.

A two-faced quilt?….. sinister…… Or should that be a pumpkin with a face on his back side?…… ? *snigger*

Don’t mind me. Long week, small children. Just roll your eyes and join me for the Two-faced Pumpkin facing tutorial. An easy facing method to make you smile. And if you’d like to make a Two-faced Pumpkin table protector like mine as a practice piece, then be my guest. Everything you need to know is here. The fabrics for both projects featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik.

Beary Colourful BOM: A Little Bit Silly Purple Bear

Purple Bear of a Little Bit Silly by Clever Chameleon

I’m sure you know that it’s healthy to let your hair down once in a while. Well, let’s do that today and be just a little bit silly!

Have you got a friend who knows exactly how to make you smile when you think you’d rather be grumpy? Who won’t let you  indulge in the doldrums if there’s even a whiff of ridiculous about the situation? The Purple Bear is one of those people…. and he wants you to smile today! Please welcome June’s Purple Bear of A Little Bit Silly to our growing Beary Colourful family.

The sixth bear in the Beary Colourful Quilt BOM series is a bit of a clown. Totally harmless, but can always be relied upon to liven things up a little. Great to have around when things are a bit glum or the weather is gloomy. Or when you are feeling great too, for that matter. Add this fun bear to your collection for a touch of eccentric on your Beary Colourful quilt.

And then go check out the rest of the 2018 Color Challenge posts for other ideas of how to celebrate the colour purple and enter for June’s prize.

June is Purple – Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party

June is Purple color scheme by Clever Chameleon

June is Purple! Yes folks, May is nearly done and it’s time to start thinking about next month’s Color Challenge feature colour! Purple.

“they mixed red and blue together — and what did that make? It didn’t make green. It made a deep dark purple. Purple as violets, Purple as prunes. Purple as shadows on late afternoons.”

Do you recognise the quote above? It is from the Golden Book Classic “The Color Kittens” by Margaret Wise Brown. Oh, how I was obsessed with that book as a small child. I had the audio version, on mini vinyl with the read-along booklet. I can still hear it in my head, nearly 40 years on….. perhaps it is no small wonder I have ended up here with a blog like this! Anyways…..

Let’s have a look at the complexities of purple and some of the meanings it can convey as a lead up to the next Monthly Color Challenge. And do I need mention …… the release of the Purple Beary Colourful Bear pattern is nearly here? – Friday! Yay! 🙂
