Seaside Adventures and The Ultimate Memory Quilt

Well, Hello!

Bet you did not expect a Chameleon in your inbox today! Taaa Daaa! Sorry about the absence….. it was only supposed to be for a few weeks, but once I got out of the blogging habit….. well, you know.

Long story short, I went back to work. In a newish-to-me industry. And it turns out that it is haaaaard and tiring for an old Chameleon to her learn new tricks! So as a result I haven’t been doing much sewing and even less quilt-related writing. I miss them both. I miss you all. But I do get out and about more. 😀

The reason why I am suddenly dropping in today is to let you know that there is an important blog hop starting this week. One that you do not want to miss. I agreed to be a part of this hop a looooong time ago – before getting a job. And before Marian Pena of Seams to be Sew passed away and left a big hole in the quilt blogging world. You may remember that Marian organised an annual row along of free quilt block patterns. It was always bigger than Ben Hur. And she had already started organising her event for 2021 when she died. So, many of us bloggers who had signed up opted to finish the job in memory of a good friend and amazingly generous quilt blogger. Thanks to The Quilting Room with Mel, who agreed to host, Marian’s last Row Along is a go.

So, here I am, dusting off my blogging skills, swallowing my shock at how much WordPress has evolved while I was distracted, to take you through the Seaside Adventure Row Along. This week we are starting with three patterns. They are all adorable and free for you to collect for a short while. Just head on over to the blog.

A Seaside Adventure

Marian was very passionate about the state of the world’s oceans and keen on the seaside theme for her Row Along this year, so we have stuck with it. My block is coming up in October, but there is a huge line up to fill the weeks between now and then. Check out all the bloggers who all wanted to keep Marian’s spirit floating around the internet just a little while longer.

Week One

And so the Seaside Adventure begins! The first glorious tourist spots along Marian’s seaside destination are at Kissed Quilts, Made by Marney, and Bobbin in Quilts. I think you’ll agree, these ladies have set the standard very high, straight off the bus!

Mary at Made by Marney made the cutest sea turtle row. It is 9″ high x 18″ wide.

Marlene at Kissed Quilts made a pixelated seagull. It’s not a day by the seaside without gulls, is it? It is 30″ square.

Becky at Bobbin in Quilts made a striking lighthouse scene. It is 13″ high x 24″ wide.

You can collect all the patterns at their respective pages in the links provided.

Sorry, gotta dash

Now that I’m here, I’d love to stay and chat. The Chameleon’s not given up on getting back to quilting and blogging just yet. But it’s late, so I must be getting on, but I will be back each week to give you the heads up about the next stops in the Seaside Adventure Row Along. And perhaps by the end of that the Chameleon will have found a routine that includes the occasional blog post….. That’d be nice.

Baby steps though. Until next week…. stay safe and enjoy your three new seaside-themed patterns in honour of Marian.

To absent friends!

  1. I have missed you! Thanks for getting back to the quilting world and sharing this blog hop with us! Best of luck, balancing work and Clever Chameleon. 💕

  2. As Kathleen said – SO very happy to see your blog post in my inbox! I have been a bit worried about you, I’ll admit. Congrats on the new job. Have missed your posts, so I’m delighted to hear from you once again. Those sea turtles are darling!

  3. Hi Dionne. It was so wonderful to read your post today. I think we’ve all been missing you and your posts. It is harder to learn new jobs once you reach a certain age 😉. Beautifully written post. Marian would’ve enjoyed reading it I’m sure! Love the Chameleon’s new tail. He is such an enterprising fellow with fitting in. 😉

  4. So happy to know you are alive and well. That’s not a given in today’s world. Looking forward to seeing more of your cheeky humor and hoping the Chameleon finds his way back to quilting.

  5. Oh Dione!!!!! I am so glad you are okay, SO happy and amazed in a yay way to see your post in my Inbox. I emailed you a couple of times, emailed Natasha at IB, just so very worried… HUGE BREATH of relief and thanks that you’re okay coming at you all the way from Canada. Don’t even think about replying to us; we’re all glad you’re back!

  6. Dione, SO good to see you again, and know all is well, even if the new career is harder than difficult.!! And the tribute to Marian, showing how friends in blogging and quilting all round the world unite in caring, I am sure we will be seeing some wonderful designs in the weeks to come. Stay safe over there, and keep us in the “tail” of how things are going with you and the family. XXX, Jean, across the ditch, where even the Covid can fly and settle.

  7. So good to hear from you! I am so pleased that Marion’s spirit lives on, it was such a shock when she passed. Thanks for all the info. I hope this continues every year in her memory.

  8. I’m so happy to read from you again. Congrats on the new job and don’t feel pushed to blog regularly only for us. You will adapt sooner or later to your new life and if you force it to much, the fun will drain away. I’m sure everybody is ok to wait patiently until you are ready again. Take care!

  9. I have missed you and your chameleon. Especially the stories. Smile. Hope that your work is going well and that you are allowing yourself to be stretched. Oh my I have followed Marian daily for years. This is so sad. She will truly be missed. Quilty Hugs

  10. Hi Dione, I’m so happy to hear that all is well with you and your family. I sure understand about the job thing…I’m lucky that I’m now working from home and on a pre-retirement assignment. Just wanted to say hi…you don’t need to reply, I’m just thrilled that you’re ok and hopefully one day you’ll be back. Miss you. Take care.

  11. So good to hear from you again. I was so worried that something had happened to you. You never know these corona years. Stay safe, and take small steps at a time.
